We Three Kings

Picked this little image up cheap from a market stall. Now I know why it was so cheap and I shouldn't have fallen for it - it took me several goes to get a decent image - each time there was a different part missing! However, I persevered and eventually made a couple of similar cards.
I  am trying to get motivated to make a bunch of Christmas cards but my mojo seems to have taken a hike since returning from our holiday in France LOL!
I cut a silver glitter card frame to mount around the image using  a couple of octagon dies. The black embossed image was sponged with Memento Summer sky and Paris Dusk as was the label for the sentiment. These were mounted on textured white card.
A very quick card for making batches of Christmas cards using different embossed images. I won't be using this particular one again. haha!

Twisted Easel Card

I made this card for my granddaughter's birthday this coming week. I try to use a different type of fold for each Christmas/birthday etc. This time I chose a Twisted Easel Card which is a very simple fold - follow the steps shown below. I bought the darling "Little Friends" digi stamp from Crafty Sentiment Designs specifically for this card - just so cute!

Update : WOW!!  This card was a Crafty Sentiments Favourite this week. Thanks to all the team for choosing my card xx

These are close ups of the detail.

To make the card:  Some white cardstock - 11" x 5 1/2" was scored at 5 1/2" along the longest side.
Then a diagonal score made from one corner to the centre fold.

The card was turned over and the centre fold creased using a bone folder. The corner was folded to the centre line.

The image was printed onto white card  a Spellbinders Large Octagon die used to cut it out.  The card was left in the die and some Milled Lavender Distress ink was sponged around the stencil edges. The image was coloured with Copic pens and Sakara Clear Star used to highlight the ribbon , flowers and butterflies. This process was repeated for the sentiment which was computer generated. The four mats for the image and sentiment were cut from black and deep pink card using the scalloped  octagons. Little Polka Dots and solid colour in Sweet Bohemia by Pink Petticoat was used to mat the base and triangle. The butterflies and vine leaves were cut from the scraps. Gems were added before the card was assembled.
Supplies used:
Stamps: Little Friends from Crafty Sentiment Designs (Digi).
Sentiment: Computer generated.
White and Black Card. Papers - patterned and plain - from  Pink Petticoat.
Inks: Ranger Distress ink - Milled Lavender.
Sakura Clear Star pen, Glossy Accents,  Copic Pens, ScorPal, Memory Box Vivienne and Darla Butterfly dies. Stampin Up! Butterfly Punch, Gems, Spellbinders Large Octagons and Scalloped Octagons, Cheery Lynn Ivy Strip, White Happy Birthday ribbon.

End of Term

WOW!  I am so proud of my two little grandchildren's end of year reports.
Age 5 (youngest in class )  '......has a wide vocabulary and uses it well to explain her thoughts and ideas - which others love to listen to and she regularly has her peers and teachers in hysterics due to her delivery. has been a real privilege having you in 1M.  You are such a unique girl with so much to give not only to your friends but members of staff that are lucky enough to teach you .......You light up every room you walk into...... '
Age 7  '.... is a fantastic reader! She reads clearly and with super expression. ........ I have really enjoyed having you in class 2L this year! You are always polite and have excellent manners. I have been interested in the amazing facts you have researched this year....'

** holds back the tears!  **

So -  some thank you cards are in order this year.

18th Birthday Card.

My husband's colleague has a daughter's 18th birthday coming up and asked me if I would make a card for her. I had made a card for her niece last year and something similar was required; similar tastes, hobbies, loves sun bathing etc - you get the picture. Isn't this the most difficult thing to do?  I must admit I struggled with the project but in the end I came up with this. Her favourite colours are purples and mauves. I also made an extra wide envelope box to hold it.

I do hope she likes it.

Card: Black and white pearlised card, Papermania Textured Cardstock - Soothing Heather Collection, computer generated sentiment and main image, grasses - GKD, Memento Tuxedo Black, Desert Sand, Canteloupe, Bahama Blue, Danube Blue. Strawberry Time!

This last week I made my first jam of the season - Strawberry -which is one of my favourites. Home made is so yummy! This year the strawberries were the best I have seen for a long while - big , fat and juicy; it took no more than twenty minutes for my friend Janet and I to pick four punnets and walk no further than 5 yards down a row. We are lucky to have Pick Your Own farms so close to us; raspberries, gooseberries and blackberries will be next..........and then there will be the chutneys in the autumn..what fun!
I made the computer generated label on Microsoft Office Publisher and cut them out with SU! label punch. As I have such an array of different tops I standardised them by printing out in the same way and cut using various SU! circle punches.

Enjoy........I sure will !!

First Christmas Card

I really can't believe I am making Christmas cards already! However, I wanted to try some scenic cards out this year. So here goes!
I started by flicking masking fluid over the white card to create the snowy background and when dry masked off the lower half of the card and the moon to brayer the sky. I wasn't too happy with the result so out came the sponges and with a bit of dabbling I achieved the result I was looking for.. I moved the mask around to make snow humps and used the same pink and bluey grey as the sky to highlight them. I stamped all the images in black and added a large star and a few smaller ones using a Sakura Clear Star pen. These are showing as black dots in the photo but in real time they look quite pretty! I also added some "snow" on the trees using a Sakura white pen.  When thoroughly dry the masking fluid was gently rubbed off to reveal the snowflakes.

Black and white card stock. Stamps: GKD Sentiment and Stag , Superstamp Tree Line, Stampscapes Pine trees 195G, Memento Tuxedo Black, Rangers Distress Inks : Stormy Sky, Faded Jeans, Chipped Sapphire, Spun Sugar, Milled Lavender. Green and Gold

The codeword on Addicted to CAS was Take Flight. The challenge on SCS TLC436  Twisted Traditions 2 was to use traditional holiday colours to make a non-holiday card. I choose the green and gold - but not a St Patrick's Day Card! Also another challenge - Ways to Use It - WT433 - was to use Colour Blocking. I combined the two to make this card.

It was very difficult for some reason to photograph these greens - they came out much bluer than in life.
I used a glass stamp block and Rangers Distress Inks spritzed with water to make my colour blocking.

Vellum Flowers

This is a card I made today for a friend who is going through a particularly sticky patch in her life at the moment so if you have any spare positive vibes to send this way they will be surely welcome.

I made my background paper using alcohol inks. This was paper pierced and a sentiment added using Versamark and white embossing powder. I stamped the flower image twice on vellum, embossed in white and coloured using Memento and Ranger Distress Ink. I fussy cut the spray and mounted it to the background card using glue dots. I then cut out some individual flowers and attached them over the spray. A navy blue mat was added and they were popped up on dimensionals over a pale blue shimmer textured card - gems and baker's twine added to complete.

Glossy white, navy and Papermania shimmer textured card stock, vellum, Stamps - Dogwood and Butterfly -GKD, Paper Piercing Pack and piercing tool from SU!  felt and block, white embossing powder, Versamark, Adirondack Blending Solution, gems, baker's twine, Ranger Distress Inks-Tumbled Glass, Bundled Sage, Forest Moss, Memento Paris Dusk, Adirondack Alcohol Inks - Sailboat Blue, Raisin and Silver Mixative

ACK!! Black??

Challenge hostess Dini came up with a crackerjack  Mix-Ability challenge on SCS this last week - ACK!! Black??  - 3 different ways to shade a stamped image using black only. I chose the third option - Create a background then stamp a line image over it and fill in the outline with black to create a silhouette.
Sentiment added and I think it now looks more balanced...... The colour is much truer too :)

This is the image I used :
Iris by Personal Impressions

I made my background by pouncing  three different alcohol inks, using felt on blocks, onto white glossy card . Then I stamped my iris image with black StazOn. This was then coloured in with a black Copic pen. I let this dry thoroughly then using a crackleglaze background stamp with white pigment ink stamped over the top. The white baker's twine was  partially coloured using a purple Copic pen. The image was mounted onto the card with dimensionals. I haven't added a sentiment yet, I was more interested in learning a new technique.

White glossy card,  Papermania Premium Textured Cardstock- Soothing Heather, Stamps: Personal Impressions - Iris, IndigoBlu Crackleglaze Background. Inks:  StazOn Jet Black, Adirondack Alcohol Inks - Raisin, Purple Twilight, Silver Mixative and Snow Cap Pigment Ink, Copic Pens, Adirondack Alcohol Blending Solution. Felt and blocks, white baker's twine and dimensionals.

Is it Summer yet?

It certainly doesn't feel like it. Windy, dull and sooo cold for June. Feels more like March!
Over at SCS Vicki has a lovely colour combo for us this week. I received a Hampton Art Stamp recently called Pansies so thought I'd use this one today. Hopefully the cheerful colours will brighten us up til the sun decides to make an appearance!

I coloured the image using Copic Pens then used the Beyond the Border technique to place the pansies out of the frame using Spellbinders A2 matting Basics B die. The card was run through my Big Shot using Craft Concepts In Stitches embossing folder.  Part of the sentiment was popped up using dimensionals. The grosgrain ribbon was added before mounting on white card stock base.

Hero Arts Painted Flower

This is a beautiful flower but rather larger than I thought!
I stamped some red card with Flower Flourishes and Versamark and dried using a heat gun. The flower image was stamped on white card with Picked Raspberry and Aged Mahogany, Forest Moss and Mowed Lawn Distress Inks. I sponged the edges with Spun Sugar and mounted the image on embossed red card that had faux photo corners. These were made by making double slits at each corner with a craft knife. The sentiment was stamped on white card with GKD sentiment, sponged with Spun Sugar and cut with a Sizzlits die. The ribbon was added together with some pink gems.

Pop Up Sentiment

The Try a New Technique challenge on SCS this week was to pop up part of a sentiment and the CAS Challenge was to use the colours hot pink, celery green, white and kraft. I combined these two challenges.
I really liked the end result and know I will use this technique again. I made a CAS card using this lovely border stamp from Santa Rosa. I stamped Happy in Memento Tuxedo Black and Birthday in Ranger's Picked Raspberry Distress Ink. I cut out this part out and popped it up on dimensionals.  The border was coloured with Copic Pens and I added a bit of bling. The white card was adhered to Kraft card base.

Elegant Florals

I so enjoyed making the background for my card yesterday I thought I would use the same method today.

This time I used a square Spellbinder's die to cut out and emboss some white card. Then I masked off the border with post it notes and block stamped some Frayed Burlap, Bundled Sage and Weathered Wood, (spritzed with water) onto the card. Some leaves from Hello Sunshine and the verse from Life is Good (both GKD) were stamped onto the background with Bundled Sage. I stamped the flower and sentiment from Elegant Florals with Versafine Onyx Black and heat embossed with clear ep.   The image was coloured with a black Copic pen leaving some white parts for highlights.
I made a frame from embossed forest green textured card and mounted this on top of the image which was then attached to the mat with dimensionals.

Pop Art!

Fun challenges on SplitCoastStampers this last few days.
The Mix Ability challenge was to make a simple design with markers or paint,  then outline the shape with a fine black or white pen. The Monday CAS was to use a piercing tool and Monday Try a New Technique was to use at least 3 neutral colours for background and then add a pop of one colour.
I combined the three into one card.

I used Frayed Burlap, Weathered Wood and Bundled Sage Distress Inks as my three neutrals to make my background by first using the Colour Blocking technique and then stamping some  IndigoBlu French Script and  Home Decor Ivy Leaves over the top in Weathered Wood and Bundled Sage. I daubed some Spiced Marmalade and Rusty Hinge in a sort of circle then free hand drew some petals and leaves with a Copic Multiliner. I first coloured the centre black but this looked too stark so I added some Stickles silver to soften.  I paper pierced the oval and corners and added the sentiment.
